Two New Fish Stories on AAAS Member Central
I have two new blog posts up at AAAS Member Central, about two very different fish stories."BPA Blurs Distinction Between Fish Species:" Endocrine-disrupting chemicals released into rivers affect the mating choices of fish, altering the courtship behavior of males and the mate preferences of both sexes. A new study published online this month in the journal Evolutionary Applications demonstrates how these changes lead to inter-species breeding and threaten biodiversity."Record Returns of Sockeye Salmon:" This summer is shaping up to be a record-breaking one for sockeye salmon. Record numbers of the salmon have been returning to the Northwest's Columbia Basin this summer, with a run of more than 400,000 now expected. I talked to AAAS member David Welch, the CEO of Kintama Research Services, about what these numbers mean for the once-waning population of sockeye salmon.
