New on AAAS: Chumming for Sharks

Scientists, filmmakers and others use chumming to get close to sharks. But is the practice attracting sharks closer to shore and leading to more attacks on people? That's what some people are saying after the death of a South African bodyboarder, who was bitten by a great white shark in waters where filmmakers were chumming for sharks in the previous week.I talked to Robert Hueter, Director of the Center for Shark Research at Mote Marine Laboratory in Florida, about the risks and realities of chumming.
